Are you in scope of NIS2? Check it in two minutes
Choose your sector, enter your size and see whether your organisation is probably an essential entity, an important entity or out of scope, with the next steps for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
In short: NIS2 applies to organisations in the 18 listed sectors that are at least medium-sized (50 or more staff, or turnover and balance sheet both above €10 million), plus some entity types regardless of size. Large organisations in the highly critical sectors are generally essential; the others in scope are generally important.

How the check works
NIS2 first looks at what you do: the sectors and entity types in Annexes I and II. Then at size, using the EU SME definition: medium-sized means 50 or more staff, or turnover and balance sheet both above €10 million; large means 250 or more staff, or turnover above €50 million and balance sheet above €43 million. Some entity types are covered regardless of size. Large entities in Annex I are generally essential; other entities in scope are generally important.

Common questions
Is the result of the NIS2 scope checker legally binding?
No. It is a first indication based on the Directive and the EU SME definition. National laws can designate further entities, so document your decision per legal entity and confirm it with the scope check guide.
Which size figures should we use?
Use the figures from your latest approved accounts, with staff in annual work units. If you are part of a group, add partner enterprises in proportion and linked enterprises in full.
What is the difference between essential and important entities?
Both must take the NIS2 risk-management measures and report significant incidents. Essential entities face proactive supervision and higher maximum fines; important entities are supervised after the fact. In Belgium, essential entities also need a regular conformity assessment.
What should we do after the check?
Register with your national authority, document the decision with the free scope decision worksheet, and start the measures. In Belgium you can begin free with the NIS2 Starter.
